LOST HERITAGE
Each and every one of us were born into an heritage. Some may choose to live their lives with little thought to the past. Others love to sit and listen to the elders of a family talk about their life experiences. Many get to an age where they think – “do you know what – I want to know about my roots and where I and my family came from”. Often at that moment you realise you had wished you had listened to gran and granddad relating tales of childhood and wartime experiences and other significant events in their lives. Sadly those stories may be doomed to an unaccountable history. How often do you visit book shops and fairs and yard or boot sales and see piles of photographs and postcards of times gone by and then the penny drops – where is all our family history and the photographs and souvenirs of the past.
We often pick up old photos and documents from the most unusual places and feel it would be good to find out about the subjects and even pass these treasures to the families.
We will post a few details of each photo or document leaving out information that only family members would recognise in an attempt for the item to returned to proven relatives.
We will of course be asking the family member to cover the cost of the items and any postage and packing but other than that we don’t wish to profit. The achievement of my detective work will be reward enough, however if someone feels they would like to donate a few pounds to the website fund we would appreciate it but it is not a requirement
Have you ever ordered a Birth, Marriage or Death Certificate or any other document that turned out to be the wrong one? Or perhaps you have found old documents at boot sales, online auctions or charity shops etc.? Someone somewhere will be really grateful if you pass it on. To display your unwanted certificates/documents here (they do not need to be from Wiltshire) please advise Teresa Lewis (Coordinator), or to contact an owner either contact them direct via the link on their profile or contact our Coordinator, Teresa Lewis.
Please make sure that you advise the administrator if these items are no longer available. Thank you
Please note items should not be offered for sale for more than the original cost of the item. Postage and Packaging should be kept at a reasonable cost. All transactions are between the two interested parties. The OPC group and its administrators take no responsibility other than to put the interested parties in touch with each other.
