Parish History
The village has the A27 running through it. It can also be reached from Salisbury via Farley/Dean which is a good cycle or walking route. The village once featured in a TV soap advertisement which used three people from the village:- Vera Fortune who ran the village Post Office at the time, a Mrs. Dear and a man whose name is unknown. The parish was referred to as Shining Whiteparish.

Fountain, The Street
17th century building, was the village blacksmiths premises until 1915, then it became an ale house. Full license was granted in 1939.
King’s Head, The Street.
Is a 16th century establishment once owned by Strongs Brewery. It had three bars at one point but only one was licensed.
Parish Lantern, Romsey Road
The pub is over 100 years old and was formerly a pub and house. It was enlarged in the mid 20th century
