Parish History

Old English, scealde burna = shallow stream) is shut in by hills and lies on the Berkshire border. The church (St. Michael) of Norman origin , has some Early English work and a modern South aisle. A monument dated 1562 is said to commemorate Sir Francis Choke. 

Shalbourne is now under the jurisdiction of Berkshire and includes Newtown
