The Parish Church of St. Mary The Virgin

The church of St. Mary much restored in 1849 but containing two recumbent effigies of great interest. One, in the south transept, commemorates Walter Cliff, the father of Fair Rosamund, who founded the church in 1172 in her memory. The other , in the chancel, is that of Isabella Mompesson and is a figure of 13th century date with whimple head dress. Note also a perpendicular oak screen and a Norman font. To the east of the church is a 14th century gateway with a louvre chimney. This formerly led to a grange of Bradenstoke Priory, on the site of a farm. [The Little Guide, published by Methuen, 1949]

St. Mary the Virgin is the parish church for both Lower and Upper Seagry which are separate tythings within the parish
