The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The second from the north of the Deverill valley villages, has a church with the rare dedication of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, wretchedly rebuilt in 1843. It contains, however, the fine altar-tomb of late 14th-century date, to a member of the Ludlow family. They possessed the Elizabethan manor house, to the east of the church, which was altered during the days of Queen Anne. Adjoining it is a fine 15th century title barn. Tomb & Lineage of John Ludlow 1519

Planning Application W/84/00713/LBC. The old church conversion to a dwelling 7 June 1984.

The chest tomb to John Ludlow (d. 1519) which carries the Ludlow heraldic arms was removed to Longbridge Deverill Sts. Peter & Paul and is now the chapel altar, long with a number of other smaller monuments, when the Church closed.
