Parish History
Great Chalfield or Chalfield Magna lies a little to the north east of Bradford on Avon. All Saints built as a private chapel adjoining the mediaeval manor house by the family of Tropenell during the 15th century. There is a panelled cradle roof, a stone screen carved with heraldry, a Georgian three-decker pulpit and wall paintings depicting the life of St. Katherine. The manor house is in the care of the National Trust.
The parish also includes Little Chalfield.

Chalfield Manor
Great Chalfield Manor was used in the BBC dramatisation of Poldark. It is used as the home of Caroline & Dr. Enys known as Killewarren. The Chalfield Manor House appealed to the production team because it is still lived in by the original family, the Floyds. This gives ‘Killewarren’ a feeling of warmth and domesticity which couldn’t be recreated in a studio.
