Parish Church of Holy Trinity
The current Church of The Holy Trinity replaced the Church of St. Nicholas on the same site in 1866. This newer Church of St. Nicholas had been built in 1749, replacing the older Church of St. Nicholas which had existed in a different location within the parish since 1291.

Parish History
The parish of Fonthill Gifford is located in the south-west of the county of Wiltshire. To the north of the parish, the A303 road runs east-west and to the west the A350 runs north-south. Fonthill, probably from the Celtic, meaning ‘spring place’ and Gifford from the possession of the manor by the Giffard family at the time of the Domesday Survey. Fonthill Gifford village is one of fifteen in an area known as the Nadder Valley, situated in a triangle formed by Warminster and Shaftesbury in the west, and Salisbury in the east. The other villages are: Chicklade, Hindon, Fonthill Bishop, Chilmark, Teffont Magna, Dinton, Baverstock, Tisbury, Teffont Evias, Barford St Martin, Ansty, Swallowcliffe, Sutton Mandeville, Fovant and Compton Chamberlayne. Stops Hill Road connects Fonthill Gifford to the neighbouring village of Hindon to the north-west and Hindon Lane links it to the town of Tisbury to the south-east, which has the nearest railway station.
