The Parish Church of St. Mary (Old and New Churches)

dilton st. mary  dilton st. mary the new building

There was a good deal of comfortable re-furnishing of churches during the Georgian era; so much of their work was swept away by Victorian Gothic restorers; those examples of Georgian church interiors which may remain are of value to us today. Within the 15th century shell of the parish church at Old Dilton, close by Westbury, the whole of the Georgian furnishings may be seen. There is a three-decker pulpit overlooking family and ordinary pews, itself overlooked by galleries to west and north. This church is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

Parish Register Transcripts

Please note that the earlier registers are very difficult to read and the transcriber has made entries to the best of their ability.  Entries were possibly originally in Latin but have been anglicised for ease of research.  It is recommended therefore that researchers cross-reference entries through other sources and where possible consult the original registers

Baptisms

Some of the earlier entries in the baptism registers have been omitted due to the illegibility of the handwriting and condition of the original registers.
