Parish History
Chiseldon (ceosel-dun = gravel down) lies in a gap on the north side of the Marlborough Downs with fine views over the flat country to the north. The old village is charming, but much modern development has grown up as the result of a large military camp established here after 1914. [source: The Little Guide, Methuen 1949]
The parish of Chiseldon was combined with that of Draycote Foliat and includes the tythings of Burderop, Badbury and Hodson. The parish can also be spelt as Chisledon or Chiselton
