Blag Dog, B3089
This is a 15th century building built with the local Chilmark quarry stone. The former brewery area which now houses the restaurant has ammonite fossils built into the walls from the quarry stone and estimated as being 160 million years old. The pub was once used by smugglers as the inn is situated on the old Poole to Warminster Road. The inn has so much history it is well worth a visit.

1841 Census: note that the transcript refers to an area called “Rudge” which is in fact the Tithing of Ridge. The original census document clearly uses the word Rudge but the Tithing has never been called that – it is just an anomoly in the recording of the name.
