The Parish Church of St. Andrew

The Parish Church of St. Andrew dates from the 14th Century. It is constructed from stone and flint with a small wooden belfry.

John Kent, Squire of Boscombe (died 1727) is buried in the transept of the church. He built four almshouses in the village and in his will endowed them with a payment of twenty four pounds per annum for the maintenance of four poor people, two widows and two widowers, chosen from the parishes of Boscombe and Winterbourne Dauntsey but Boscombe preferred.

From Shoemaker to Builders Merchant

In the early days Boscombe was a farming community and, apart from the Rector, most villagers were agricultural labourers.  Gradually this changed as can be seen from the Baptism Records. Though this list is based on only of those parishioners who had children baptised in the local church, it gives an indication as to the change of occupations in the village.     Shoemaker to Builders Merchant 1813-1991
