St. Giles – 12th Century Village Church

The Parish Church of St. Giles

The church of St. Giles was dedicated as such many years after the first church was built on the site in the 12th Century.  The church was rebuilt during 1844 and 1845 by James Thompson which was funded by Joseph Neeld.  The north door and the 3 bay arcade are from the original 12th century church and the nave roof and rood screen are from the 15th century.  There is a memorial here to Thomas Gore or Gore the Antiquary.  The tower contains 6 bells five of which were recast in 1844 by Mears. The church was given Grade II listed status in 1959 and is now part of the Gauzebrook Group Ministry.
