Well – here we are. Firstly a huge thank you to Richard Cresswell for working so hard to rebuild our website. I am really pleased with it – it is of course a bit of a learning curve for me as administrator as I need to learn so many new tricks. It’s not true you know when they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks – am living proof with my 63rd birthday looming in a few months time. Talking of birthdays have set up a birthday fundraiser for the website on Facebook thinking I could launch it nearer the date but nope FB decided otherwise and set it up immediately but I thank everyone who has donated already.
The team are now working hard now to tidy up the pages a little more but the move has allowed us to ditch a few things that were well overdue for review. Mainly website links that have been broken as the site has closed etc. We are also still tidying up documents as we go along. We are also loading new items too this is still taking a while as I need to check them for errors, copyright etc.
Today Ruth Wood made the booking for next years meet up – there will be a more detailed notice put up on the website once things are settled. We are having the annual get together and meal at the Kings Arms, Wood Street Swindon on the afternoon of the 15th May 2021. We are sticking to same venue as chosen for this years cancelled meet up. Nigel Chalk has arranged for the local studies library to be open from 10 am on the Saturday morning for anyone wishing to take advantage of the facilities they have available. We are also arranging a guided tour of Radnor Road cemetery on the Sunday for anyone who is staying over. Personally am hoping to do 11 nights since it is unlikely we will get away anywhere this year. But that could of course all change nearer the date.
I have been working from home (pretty unsuccessfully due to technical and equipment issues) so am returning to the office on Tuesday (21st) to commence my part time work. Although I will be based in our head office and not in my normal office. Sadly we are unable to meet the public yet so I will be doing the admin whilst my colleagues do the telephone work as they have been doing since lockdown.
Its good that we are now beginning to get back to doing things we enjoyed including field trips for our research interests and having a drink in the pub. Please though still be wary of all restrictions and keep safe. If you are planning a trip to visit churchyards etc please read our field trip essentials list which can be found on the home page of the main website.
I hope you are all enjoying the new website – I know we have had a few teething problems but I think we may be past the worst of it. Once more thanks to Richard Cresswell he came to our rescue when Susan and Michael Pearson handed the site over to me – I truly hope he does not regret putting his hand up. We are truly grateful to him and he has created a website that I visualised.
By the way John Pope visited the county last week and based himself around the north of the county visiting parishes such as Bremilham – he he now busy loading loads of new photos to the galleries and adding new galleries to parishes.
Enjoy the lockdown easing and stay safe.
