First of all let me thank all our new offers received by members to transcribe items and to those who have adopted parishes. Over the last month the website has been hit by a few technical issues but we hope the disruption hasn’t caused you all too much disappointment. We are back on track however we are still trying to put right gallery issues. We would really like to move forward with developing some other features but these are naturally on the back burner until we can be assured that existing features are working to 100% capacity.
Since our last catch up John Pope has been back to Wiltshire and photographed more church interiors his efforts will be found in the galleries once they are all uploaded and made stable. He tells me he is going to go back very soon plus he will attend the meet in October.
Talking about the meet up in October, it is not too late to arrange to join us. Everyone is welcome. The meet will be in Devizes on the 8th October from Noon onwards. However a few of us will be in Devizes from the afternoon of the 6th to the 9th. Please visit our Facebook Events page for more details and to register your interest. Amanda Wood-Woodley is organising this years event.
On a personal level it looks like I shall be giving up work at the end of August to become full time carer to my autistic adult son, plus my own health has not been 100% recently. Good thing is that I will be able to be on hand more for website matters.
If anyone feels that they can spend a little time (doesn’t have to be hours on end) either assisiting in an admin role or as an OPC or transcriber we would welcome you with open arms. Just get in touch with Teresa Lewis via the contact us option on the website.
The team are continiuing with ongoing projects – these include, Census, Parish Registers, Wills, Newspaper Reports, Inquests, We Will Remember Them and Mapping Project, plus other items that may come up. Martin Barrett has been doing a grand job with the We Will Remember Them Daily Facebook Memorial Posts. These are reflected on the website Calendar too.
With the cost of living rising all the time I was persauded by a friend to try and grow my own potatoes, onions and tomatoes. All were planted outside a few weeks ago and I am pleased to say we are seeing quite a growth spurt with a few tomatoes developing and about 10 potato plants growing strongly. I am surprised as I can kill cactus and spider plants just by utting them on a windowsill. The onions we have no idea about they seem to be growing on the surface but underground coould be a disaster but at least we are trying. I have also put up some bird feeders and have been delighted to see a good number of sparrows, blue tits, magpies, jackdaws and a couple of robins feeding happily on seed, nuts, mealworms and fat balls. Pesky Pigeons and Psycotic Seagulls are also constant visitors especially since they roost on next doors roof and chimney pots.
I cannot finish without a mention to all the wonderful sport going on, World Athletics, Commonwealth Games, Cricket and of course we wish the England Lionesses good luck in the Euros Final. Of course we have tennis, rugby and F1 to follow too – makes me tired just thinking about all that excercise.
