This Day in History: 1944-07-18

1944 – Salisbury – REGINALD JOHN WHISTLER, known as REX, artist & theatrical costume and set designer, was killed in action near Caen, Normandy during WWII.  Rex spent many years in Salisbury and is commemorated in the Cathedral.  He is buried in Banneville-La-Campagne War Cemetery, Normandy, France.  He was a member of a group of like minded artists, writers and poets known as the “Bright Young Things” Set.
