Parish History

Derry Hill is situated 3 miles east of Chippenham and grew up around Bowood House, the seat of the Marquis of Lansdowne, providing houses for the estate workers.

Christchurch was built c.1839 in the Victorian style.  It was used regularly by the Lansdowne family instead of their own private chapel for large family weddings and burials.

Pewsham although listed as a parish by Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre does not in fact have a church of its own and its sparse number of residents would have attended other churches in the Calne and Chippenham areas.  Pewsham is now a large residential area near to both Chippenham and Calne.  Pewsham was also know as Old Derry Hill

The parish of Derry Hill also contains Bowood House seat of the Marquis of Lansdown
