The parish of St Thomas' had it's origins in the 13th Century. It is believed that the church of St Thomas' was in use as a place of worship before the building of the Cathedral. The church is famed for it's Doom Painting, which was created in 1475. Painted over the Chancel Arch, it depicts Christ sitting before the New Jerusalem, with the bad being sent to hell and the good raised to heaven.
